Works In Progress
- Director Katariina Lillqvist is now shooting her greatly awaited new animation, Faruza. As most of her works, Faruza will definitely encourage heatful debates in many societies despite of it´s fairytale-like, gentle facade. Faruza is a medieval story of an isolated island kingdom in the Red Sea, where the rulers abide by a strict law: the women must wear a copper mask from the day they turn twelve until the day they die. Read more! and see the Making of Faruza photogallery!

- Camera Cagliostro´s latest puppet animation "Far away from
Ural" (dir. Katariina Lillqvist, 26 min.) has aroused a huge cultural
discussion in Finland.
The animation tells about the cruel Finnish Civil war (1918) where fellow citizens
were slaughtered without any trial. What is more scandalous, the film hints that
the holy man of Finnish history - one of the responsibles in the war - Marshal
C.G. Mannerheim was possibly gay. The reactions show that the wounds of the war
are still there. The director’s privacy has been threatened.
-
Some better news. Three Cagliostro´s animation films were chosen to the
Tampere International Shortfilmfestival competition! The films are: the love and
war story "Far away from Ural" by Katariina Lillqvist, the hilarious
and strange drawn animation "The Anchor" by Tommi Juutilainen (8´)
and educationally incorrect flash-animation "Overtime" (9´) by
Tatu Pohjavirta and Mark Ståhle.
- “The Anchor”
got ready! Brilliant sailor-story "The Anchor (7´, drawn animation)”
is directed by Tommi Juutilainen. “The Anchor” is one of the films
that were chosen to the “Shorts- project” by YLE, Finnish Film Foundation
and AVEK. “The Anchor” tells a very strait forward story about seamen
and their captain. On a lonely ship one sailor looses his head and the rest of
the guys try to find out what happened and comfort each other. The premiere of
the film will be at the Tampere Short film festival on 9th of March 2007. See
the pictures!
- "Animal" , a puppet animation (directed
by Tatu
Pohjavirta and produced by Camera Cagliostro) has won several international
prices, like at the Premiers Plans Festival in Angers (20.-29.1.06), in France
two prices in the short film category: the “Prix du public” and the
price for the best music, which is made by Alamaailman Vasarat. The film also
won the Special Price et the International Short Filmfestival in Tampere 2006
and Special Mention in Hamburg Filmfestival.
