The Magic Reindeer – Structure

Each episode is independent ; there are no continuing storylines. As the project is mainly targeted for children audience, the voice over commentary is very important especially in countries apart from Scandinavia / northern Canada / northern Russia. The soundtrack is made 100 % acoustically: only nature voices and native instruments are used.

Very important part is the function of the real shaman ritual objects like animal skulls, shaman drums, amulets etc. When puppets are playing with the real-scale objects, a mystical and surrealistic atmosphere appears . The drum can transform into a ship; the skull of the bear can be the shamans cave and so on.

All the 13 episodes together form a wide history of northern world and cosmology. Full of ethnographical details, they could also serve educational purposes in various schools and organisations. In different episodes we will visit many different worlds, like the under the earth world or in the heaven or in the sea.

Some stories happen in the tents and other inside worlds and some at the sea and in the mountainous landscape. The different seasons give their accent to the episodes. The overwhelming polar lights in winter or the colourful “ruska”time in autumn when the nature takes all the shades of red and yellow.
